History makers Toronto Wolfpack have famously clinched promotion to the English Super League following success in the playoffs.
After narrowly missing out on promotion a year ago in London, the world’s first transatlantic sports team were not to be denied this time. In a grandstand finale at the Lamport Stadium in their home city, Wolfpack ran out 24-6 winners against giant-killers Featherstone Rovers.
Dubbed the “Million Pound Game”, promotion sees Toronto Wolfpack reach the English Super League for the first time, playing a series of “away” games in Spain, Dublin and London, with English teams then travelling over to Toronto in the reverse fixtures.
Promotion to the Super League will no doubt result in increasing global broadcast and sponsorship opportunities, with the club also about to launch their own brand of performance drinks and recovery products.
Wolfpack also has strong links with the Canadian Embassy and Canadian Chamber of Commerce in the UK, acting as a conduit for large Canadian companies to expand into the UK and vice versa as the ties between the two countries continue to grow.
So what’s next? It’s fair to say their aim for next year won’t be simply just to stay up, they will be targeting the top 5 and the playoffs. Being the world’s first transatlantic sports team, Toronto Wolfpack have already made history, can they go one step further and win the Super League?
Whatever happens, we already can’t wait for next season…
Huge congratulations to our friends at Toronto Wolfpack! 🐺
