About the role

We are seeking a highly technical Compliance Accountant with both UK and UAE experience to join our Dubai office. This role has end-to-end responsibility for VAT compliance, bookkeeping, financial statements, statutory filings, and audit liaison, across UK- and UAE-connected entities and client structures.

This is a technical, control-focused role requiring deep knowledge of UK and UAE accounting, tax, and regulatory frameworks, and is critical to maintaining robust compliance standards as the Dubai practice scales.

What you will be doing

  • VAT & Indirect Tax (UK & UAE)
  • Full ownership of UAE VAT compliance, including:
    • VAT registrations and de-registrations
    • Preparation, review, and submission of VAT returns
    • VAT reconciliations, controls, and technical reviews
  • Support and review UK VAT compliance where relevant
  • Act as the technical VAT contact for the business
  • Liaise with the UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA) and UK HMRC as required, including audits and enquiries
  • Oversee and review bookkeeping for the Dubai entity and UK-linked structures to a high standard
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of accounting records
  • Perform balance sheet reviews, reconciliations, and control checks
  • Prepare and review statutory financial statements in accordance with IFRS and UK accounting standards (as applicable)
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors (UK and UAE)
  • Respond to audit queries and manage the process through to sign-off
  • Support internal reviews and regulatory inspections
  • Prepare and review UK and UAE tax returns, filings, and statutory submissions
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes in both jurisdictions and assess impact
  • Maintain internal compliance manuals, technical guidance, and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Support KYC/AML processes and internal risk assessments
  • Identify and escalate compliance, accounting, or control risks
  • Strengthen internal controls as the Dubai office and client base grow

Your knowledge, skills and experience

Essential Skills:

  • Proven hands-on experience in both the UK and UAE
  • Strong technical accounting and compliance background

Demonstrable experience in:

    • UK and UAE VAT compliance
    • Bookkeeping and statutory financial statements
    • Audit preparation and auditor liaison
  • Excellent knowledge of IFRS and UK accounting standards and UK and UAE regulatory environments
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong technical judgement
  • Experience within a professional services or regulated firm
  • Exposure to UK corporation tax and UAE corporate tax compliance
  • Ability to operate autonomously in a growing international office
  • ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification
